Having our own office since April 1, 2018, opened up a number of opportunities for us. The most important being Summer Camp in 2018 summer. We were able to do a number of things during this summer camp that started around April 10 and ended on June 1, 2018.
We were able to do many things including (not in any particular order):
- Rangoli – Our kids cleaned up the front space every day and drew rangoli every day. Each day something new and colourful.
- Mathematics Classes – We organized mathematics classes for those going to the tenth class. We were able to complete basic understanding of about 7 chapters. Our kids were ready for their tenth math even before the next academic year begins.
- Visitors – We had several visitors to our office including well accomplished NRI’s and Engineers.
- Psychology Classes – We organized special psychology classes by Smt. Padma Trivikram. She made an excellent impression on the children and helped them in tuning their mind to greater calmness and discipline.
- Drawing Classes – One of our volunteers, Preeti, visited us very frequently to teach our kids how to draw. Some of our kids had some innate drawing talent and she was instrumental in bring it out.
- Yoga Classes – Our kids wanted to continue their yoga practice. They did well under guidance of Bharat and Vignatha who by now have become their most favourite brother and sister.
- Draw Something Every Day – Some children took up the task of drawing something every day on the white board before our Math sessions begin. We left that portion of the white board intact until next day.
- Literary Club – We started a literary club that gave an opportunity for our children to speak out their minds.
- Reading Program – We opened up a reading program that encouraged our children to read and talk about what they learnt during the literary club.
- Music Classes – Our children learnt a few songs from one of our volunteers Kum. Bhargavi.
- Samskrit Chants – About 4 of our kids learnt to chant Vishnu Sahasranamam.
- Science & Technology – A few of our kids experiment with building some basic electric circuits.
- Short Tours – whenever we wanted to break the routine, we simply took our kids to participate in the breakfast meets at iFocus or simply went out to visit nearby attractions.
Overall it was one of the most memorable events ever at Soham Academy. Within a span of 50 days we accomplished a number of tasks and had the most fun. On the last day of the Summer Camp we organized a major lunch at our office. After lunch we all went to a Paramanu movie.
We were able to put together a nice video to capture all that we were able to achieve during the summer. Here it is.
