065 – Sri Krishna Janmashtami Celebrations

Over the last two months, we trained kids from four schools in chanting slokas and in singing classical songs. This training is part of our Soham Champs program. We promised them that we will take them to a prominent place to chant shlokas and sing songs in public. As promised we took them to Sri Venugopapla Swamy Temple and Goshala. It was a bumper event. We visited the same temple last year too. Our kids had a great time – all the 70 of them!!

  • Our kids sang several Annamacharya Keertanas in addition to the songs Garuda Gamana and Jaya Janardhana Krishana. 5 kids from our previous batches also joined us.
  • 23 of our kids, from our Amberpet Govt High School,  gave an excellent yoga performance.
  • Our kids participated in dahi-handi (utti) event.
  • The journey to and from the venue by two buses was in itself a lot of fun.

The schools include:

  1. Vedic Vidyalayam, Sitaphalmandi
  2. Government High School, Jamai Osmania.
  3. SVES High School, Vidyanagar.
  4. Sai Grace High School, Vidyanagar
  5. Government High School, Amberpet (Yoga Team)

Mata Nirmalananda Yoga Bharati, who is the head of the ashram praised our children for their ability to chant difficult slokas. She exhorted them to remember the slokas and their meaning all their lives. Our yoga team also received wide acclaim. The event received media coverage and a pic of our kids performing yoga was prominently displayed in the news item of a local newspaper.

Planning and executing an event of this kind i.e. preparing kids for chanting slokas and singing, making them practice yoga routines, picking them from five different locations, drop them at their locations, ensuring that they are not starving at any point (we started at 8 am and returned at 6.30 pm) and everything in between is a very big task. Kudos to our team members – Y Chandrasekhar Reddy, Ganita, Vignatha and Bharat. They were well assisted by our previous batch students – Mallikarjun, Shiva Narayana and Shiva.

Here are some pics from the event..
