Another lovely first for Soham Academy as we participated in the Science Day. For the first time we took our own science projects to the event. Last year our kids did yoga formations on the same day. This year we did something different.
We helped our kids in designing five electronics projects using Arduino platform.
1. Smart Fan: This fan works only when someone is in front of it.
2. Smart Streetlights: The street lights go on only when there is traffic on the street. The lights go off when there is no activity for over 60 seconds.
3. Home Automation: Using bluetooth and a mobile phone, the user can switch on/off up to four lights. This project won the prize under the “innovation” category.
4. Obstacle Avoidance Car: This car has a sensor that detects obstacles and avoids it by taking a detour.
5. Remote Controlled Car: This car takes its instructions from an app on a mobile phone via a bluetooth connection.
The kids did everything on their own. They dressed up their projects and drew all the necessary charts for the day. The photos in this post will be able to tell you a lot more!! We all thoroughly enjoyed working with kids on all these projects. They were all smiles on what they were able to accomplish.
Mr. Adi Narayana, Chief Financial Officer at Colosseum, and Rakesh of Whistle Drive joined us on this big day. Mr. Surendra Tipparaju, the founder of Colosseum group, supports all our programs with great interest.

Shiva Krishna joined Soham Academy in November of 2018. He quickly learned everything he can about Arduino. He trained all the kids in executing these projects. He was later joined by Sai Krishna. The kids expressed their gratitude by presenting them both with two nicely done thank you cards.
This is a huge step for us. We intend to engage our kids in new age technologies in the coming months and years in a big way.
It all started with the visit to our academy by an young man by name Arnav in around August 2018. He regularly participates in Tech Challenge competitions in the US. His brief 3 minute talk on his tech projects changed everything for us. Thank you Arnav, thank you Anusha, Prasad, and Shailaja for visiting us and inspiring us to take up tech projects.
The following videos shows an interesting interaction between an obstacle avoidance car and a remote controlled car. The obstacle avoidance car thinks that the RC car is a nuisance and it tries to avoid it.. but the RC car still tries to pursue it!! Both of them were designed and created by our Soham Academy kids as part of their Science Day participation.
