012 – Freedom Run – Our First 5K

November 26, 2017

It was our first ever 5K run.

15 of our kids participated in their first ever 5K – 6 girls and 9 boys – all of them are 9th graders. One of the kids, Yogesh, was one of the first 10 participants to reach the finish line. Incidentally he is also the one who prepared one of the best mind maps in our Learning to Learn module! Raw talent indeed .

We got our kids to practice for about 3 weeks. Yoga training made them realize that staying fit is not a trivial matter. Going to the ground early in the morning at 6.00 AM for 3 days in a week introduced a new power positive routine in their lives!

The teachers from the school – Madhu Shalini ma’am and Rajani ma’am – joined in to cheer the students. All the kids are now like heroes in their families and in their streets. This is a big first in their lives. This brings in a sense of accomplishment that alludes many but once it arrives it brings with it a lot of passion and a clear sense of purpose to life.

A big thanks go out to Vignatha, for her Yoga training. Also a big thank you to Venu, Sathish and Azeez for their support during fitness routines, Mounika for her regular moral support and several other iFocus members who visited us routinely during our practice sessions early in the morning.
